The HSGQ 2.5GbE SFP XPON ONU Stick is a high-performance optical network unit designed for seamless integration into modern fiber-optic networks. Engineered with cutting-edge technology, this compact SFP form-factor device supports both GPON and EPON standards, making it a versatile solution for various network deployments.

If any of the variants are out of stock, you can order the APC-to-UPC patch cable along with the XPON stick, and we will include a free coupler (APC-to-APC or UPC-to-UPC) for you to use with your ISP's cable.

Note:

Setting up an ONU is an advanced process that is better left to your ISP. For using your own router to prevent Double NAT, enable port forwarding, etc., consider asking the ISP to enable Bridge mode on your existing ONU.

We cannot guarantee the compatibility of ONUs for non-ISP customers without direct access to the OLT. In such cases, we offer only limited support.

Returns for ONU are accepted only if the product is in the original state it was recieved in. Firmware updates, parameter changes via CLI and physical signs of usage such as scratches or dents will result in the return being rejected.

For best performance, ensure beforehand that the ONU is supported by your ISP and client device. Firmware updates are only required in edge cases for compatibility with certain OLTs and can damage the device NAND. In such cases return and warranty will be void.

Before purchasing the ODI XPON stick, we were looking for a way to completely eliminate the ISP-provided ONT and terminate the GPON connection directly in OPNsense. The hardware itself proved to be very capable, but the setup process was far from plug-and-play.

The first challenge was authentication with Airtel. Simply plugging in the stick was not enough. The correct GPON serial number and LOID/PLOAM information had to be configured before the OLT would authenticate the device. Once the required values were extracted from the ISP ONT and programmed into the ODI stick, registration completed successfully.

The next major hurdle was VLAN configuration. Airtel delivers internet over VLAN 100, while voice services use a different VLAN. Initially, IPv4 worked but IPv6 did not. After extensive troubleshooting, the issue turned out to be related to VLAN handling and PPPoE configuration in OPNsense. Creating the VLAN interface directly on OPNsense and running PPPoE over VLAN 100 restored both IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity.

One thing we noticed during long-term operation is that the ODI XPON stick runs quite warm. Since SFP modules have limited airflow inside most systems, we added external cooling. Direct airflow from an 80–92 mm fan significantly reduced operating temperatures and improved stability during continuous operation.

Optical performance has been excellent. With receive power around -23 dBm, the module remains well within GPON operating limits and has maintained a stable link without random disconnects.

Overall, the ODI XPON stick has exceeded expectations. It provides complete control over the GPON connection, works reliably with OPNsense, supports native PPPoE, IPv6, VLAN tagging, and advanced networking features. Once everything is set up correctly, the result is a clean, ISP-router-free installation with excellent performance and complete control over the network.

Ordered a blue/UPC one, it works perfectly well. You might wanna invest in small heatsinks or a small USB fan to keep the SFP stick cool when using it.

I’m using this with my Airtel connection on a TP-Link Omada setup, and it works perfectly. One thing to note is that it runs quite hot, so I highly recommend adding a heatsink. I luckily had a spare one on hand to install, which resolved the heat issue.

Insane SFP for the price.
Went from mere 920-930Mbps to 1050Mbps on my Jio and Airtel Fiber.
Seller is always helpful and genuine, unlike many I have met.

The product works!

Pros: this thing is a charm: it boosted my internet speeds already by 200mbps /> than before I use a 1Gbps line with Airtel and it works like a charm after the installation!

For someone who doesn’t understand a lot about XPON or how Isp network work I think Paul will be a great help,

Not only he gave me the device hand to hand, but he handed me a switch as well as when the switch was dead on arrival due to some glitch he sent me a media converter over a Amazon purchase he made!

He also made sure that he has time taken out for support and was courteously helpful throughout the process of getting things working.

Cons: the thing needs a bit of a tech nack to get around.

Suggest a paid installation service, I look for more easier installation services that’s it.
No other cons really!

Bought HSGQ XPON SFP ONU Stick SC/UPC Blue EPON variant & it arrived in 2days in a 3-D printed custom case packed with precision. The module is working flawlessly with Alliance Broadband ISP in Kolkata in dual stack pppoe mode with IPv4 & IPv6 together & the temperature is hovering max around 46-47 degrees. Internet is much more smoother than before while using XC220-G3v. Buy it without hesitation as this are robust for FTTH/FTTP/FTTx deployment in home or office. SFP router using is the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter-X-SFP. Thanks Paul for the quick delivery & custom 3-D printed case. Overall great experience.

Paul, is an exceptional professional and a fantastic person to work with. He is much more than a typical reseller; his extensive knowledge and incredible after-sales support are invaluable. Paul spent three full days helping me diagnose an issue, and he is the only reason I was able to get my HSGQ device working. Without his assistance, it would have been completely useless. I would strongly recommend Paul to anyone in need of networking equipment.
